100 Years of Colour with Jotun
How a century of colour becomes part of moments that shape us.
Colour has a remarkable way of remaining with us. A particular shade of green can recall a childhood home; a familiar yellow, an afternoon spent somewhere we once belonged. Long after the details of a room have faded, its colours often remain.
For a century, Jotun has played a part in shaping these environments. What began in Sandefjord, Norway, in 1926 has evolved into a global presence in paint and coatings, accompanying generations through changing tastes, lifestyles and ideas of home.
Yet beyond the technological developments and shifting design movements, colour retains something deeply personal. It becomes a quiet witness to everyday life, giving character to the places we inhabit and forming an often-unspoken connection between people, spaces and memories.
This relationship sits at the heart of Jotun's 2027 colour collection, Journeys. Created to mark the company's centenary, the collection brings together 24 shades across three themes: Memories, Discoveries and Experiences. It reflects an understanding of colour not simply as a decorative choice, but as an expression of where we have been and who we are becoming.
Among the collection is Biri, an olive green originally introduced in the 1960s and rediscovered in Jotun's archives. Its return feels particularly meaningful: a shade once belonging to another era, finding a place in contemporary interiors.
Alongside warm earth tones, nostalgic reds and softer neutrals, it suggests that the colours we live with need not belong to any particular decade.
As Jotun enters its second century, Journeys is a reminder that colour is never entirely static. Its meaning changes with the light, the space and the people who live alongside it.
Some colours define a moment. Others stay with us for a lifetime.
